OP OP! BMW 540i G30: repairs, experience, and nuances.

The BMW 540i G30 is finally on the road! We share how the repair process went, how much the restoration cost, and what issues came up along the way.

The car was repaired in Kyiv at Garage Racer.

First impressions of the car:

  • It feels similar to the F10: big and confident on the road.

  • R20 wheels – look great, but the ride is a bit stiff.

  • Comfortable seat with side support and a “hugging” function – better than in the M series.

  • Very quiet engine, almost no exhaust sound.

  • Missing features: No active cruise control, blind spot system, or MGU.

Drawbacks:

  • White interior with yellow stains on the handle.

  • Weather stripping is starting to go bad.

  • Needs detailing.

  • Steering wheel trim is damaged.

Unexpectedly, the left headlight was also damaged. We thought only the right one was broken, but both were.

Lviv helped us with the right headlight + a few airbags = $1,700.

Stage 1 repair took place on the left bank (Hrodnenska St. 32A):

Parts list: hood, grille mount, radiator deflector, air duct, front bumper reinforcement, lower flap, center grille, upper radiator shield, radiator shield, rear bumper emergency shutdown wiring, left outer CV joint boot, hood latch mount, hood lock, radiator grille actuator, decorative cover, front center grille, cooling system radiator. Cost = $3,800.

Next bill: cooling pipe repair, new bumper, struts, emblem, radiator cassette replacement, vehicle diagnostics. Cost = $1,880.

Painting work = $1,400.

OEM caps were installed.

Airbag and dashboard restoration = $1,800.

Stage 3 diagnostics (Holosiivska St, 9):

  • B58 engine – in excellent condition (127,000 km mileage).

  • Replaced: spark plugs, oil, filters, key batteries.

  • Found: tire wear, cracks in bushings, bent arms, ATF mount leaking.

  • Rear axle is steerable, has electronic distance control.

  • License plate bracket installed.

Cost = $400.

So, car import ≈ $27,000

Expected repair cost = $5,000–7,000

Actual cost ≈ $11,000

$27,000 + $11,000 = $38,000

We’ll also do the suspension, full maintenance with differentials, transfer case, and gearbox (oil change), and plan to do a stage upgrade and additional features.

This is one of the most interesting and relevant projects to date.

BMW G30 is a worthy successor to the F10, many are switching from the F30 to it.

We hope this was useful and interesting to you.
